What we collect, and what we don't
Digi Friend has no accounts. You never give a name, email, phone number or street address to learn.
Kept on your device
Your progress (pages seen, answers given) is saved on your own phone or computer. In "shared computer" mode your progress is erased when the browser closes, and "Erase my answers from this device" clears it at any time.
Note: private browsing, clearing your browser data, or switching to another device can erase the progress saved on your device.
Sent to the program, without your name
- Whether answers were right or wrong, which lessons were opened and finished, confidence before and after each topic, and the days you visit (at most once a day).
- If you choose to answer: age range, ZIP code, and whether you learn with a class or at home. All optional.
- The end-of-course feedback form, if you send it.
- These carry a random code made on your device, only so that before and after results can be paired. The code holds no name or device details.
We say "without your name" rather than "fully anonymous": a ZIP code together with an age range can, in some cases, narrow things down to a small group of people. That is why those questions are always optional.
The erase button on your device does not delete data already sent. Because that data has no name, we usually cannot tell which rows are yours. If you have a question about this, write to us at the address at the bottom of this page.
Skipping the optional questions never limits what you can learn.
After-class records
Class coordinators record how many learners and volunteers came, which lessons were taught, and their rating of the program. No learner names.
Site statistics
The site uses Google Analytics to count page views, with IP anonymization turned on.
Who is responsible and holds the data
Digi Friend is founded and run by Phuong Lien Hoang, MSW, who is responsible for the data. The website and the data sent to the program are kept on Cloudflare (the site's hosting service). Page-view statistics are processed by Google Analytics.
How long it is kept
Data sent to the program is kept for up to 3 years to evaluate the program, then deleted.
How we use it
To see which lessons work and which are hard, and to report combined results (never individual data) to partners and funders. We do not sell data and do not show ads.
